About Us

The Barra Man gives young people real skills for the real world in a no-nonsense Aussie voice for teens, parents, and schools.

Meet Brent “The Barra Man” Stevenson

From Backyard Chats to a National Voice

Brent Stevenson, The Barra Man, is a hardworking Aussie dad, former avid cricketer, and property investor who built a good life the old-fashioned way—through grit, discipline, and showing up.

When his own son started to lose focus and push boundaries, he realised something big:

Kids today are learning plenty in school—but not always the life skills that truly matter.

So he started sharing “backyard wisdom” with his kids at The Barra Fun Park in Townsville. Those honest chats turned into a book, a brand, and a mission:

To raise a generation of grounded, respectful young Aussies who take ownership of their lives.

The Values Behind the Voice

  1. Respect
  • Start with yourself: how you talk, act, and carry yourself
  • Show respect to parents, teachers, coaches, and strangers
  • Understand that respect is earned, not demanded
  1. Responsibility
  • Own your choices instead of blaming everyone else
  • Do what you say you’ll do
  • Learn that effort, not excuses, shapes your future
  1. Resilience
  • Life will knock you down; the trick is getting back up
  • Learn from mistakes instead of sulking about them
  • Ask for help when you need it—real toughness isn’t silence

“Be a doer, not a drifter.”
